WELCOME TO DOWN ON THE FARM!!!!

In honor of all of my visitors from the Grow Your Blog Party hosted by Vicki at 2 Bags Full, WELCOME!!!!!

Thanks so much for taking time out of your busy day to read my blog.  What do I blog about you might be asking yourself??  Well, I blog about a little bit of everything.

I am a follower of Jesus Christ, saved by His grace.  I blog a lot about my faith in God.  Sometimes I ask my fellow bloggers to pray for me, or about a situation in my life or the life of someone I know.  And I pray for everyone who reads my blog.

I blog a lot about my family.  My husband and I have been married for 27 YEARS!!!  And we have two kids.  A son in college and a daughter in high school.  I am so very proud of them.  Aren't they cute??  So you'll be reading a lot about my kids and what's going on in their lives.  We live just outside of the same small town I grew up in, and my kids attend the same High School where I graduated.  Small town America!!!!!

We live on a working farm.  My husband raises turkeys, and commercial beef cattle, and he farms full-time.  So there are stories about cows and turkeys and drought and mud.

I live in a 1968 ranch style home, and we have done some remodeling since we've been living here these past 15 years.  But don't worry, there's still LOTS more that needs to be done.  You can follow along with my redecorating/remodeling adventures ON A BUDGET right here!  Here's a sample of my bathroom remodel a year and a half ago!

Before:

After!!

We're getting a new roof this spring (hail damage = insurance claim!), so we'll be doing some work outside and inside.  The ceiling leaks around our fireplace, so once I get the new roof, I can fix the ceiling and MAYBE put some life into a very tired, outdated looking brick fireplace!  (Suggestions welcomed)!!

I also love to cook.  A GOURMET CHEF I AM NOT!!!  But I love to share my recipes for cooking and canning!!

So there you have it, a little slice of my life here at Down On The Farm.   I would love for you to be a regular follower of mine as I share my life on this blog.  And whether you do or don't follow me, I THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART for visiting.

To show you just how much you mean to me, I am giving away these gorgeous cross measuring spoons!

I have these same spoons at my house and use them all the time.  They are beautiful, but I USE them.  So, to enter, it's easy, JUST LEAVE A COMMENT.  You don't have to follow my blog, ALTHOUGH I SURE HOPE YOU DO.   Leave a comment below and you're entered.  If you aren't a fellow blogger, be sure to leave your e-mail address in your comment so I know how to contact you.

So blessings to you my friends!!  And I look forward to your visits here at Down On The Farm!!!!

  1. Good morning, I am a country girl whose grandparents were small farmers. I love to can and cook too, I am retired now living in the woods in Missouri with lots of wildlife critters I feed-as we enjoy our backyard entertainment-lol I do a little gardening now in containers Kathy

  2. And I didn't know all this about you! :) I love all the pieces of your story.

I know nothing about farming but Steve and I do pick organic blueberries plus strawberries and blackberries. Last summer we picked 64 pounds of blueberries to freeze, eat and give away. I can make freezer jam but that's about it.

Your kids are beautiful. Now that Steve and I officially - for over a year - have an empty nest and no more college tuition - whew! Times 3 was the national debt.

I don't eat beef and Steve only eats beef when eating out. It's a change I made because of the cancer and not being able to control hormone fed meat. I do miss ground beef!

    Have a wonderful weekend.

  5. I love reading your blog. I would actually love to live on a farm but I was born and raised here in Florida where I now raise my family so I probably will never get to live on a farm! :) Thanks for a chance to win the spoons. They look really nice. You have a beautiful family! --Dawn

  6. You sure are a busy woman! I really love your photos, and I enjoy the richness in your life. I also have a daughter in high school and I would like to hear about your canning as I plan to dig into that. I love to grow my own veggies and since we bought our first house last year (after having lived in CA for 11 years) I now have my very own garden where I can do whatever I want.

  7. The beautiful thing about life on the farm....you can take the farmer off the farm but never the farm from the farmer. I am a farmers daughter...married life took me away from the farm to life in the city...but my...those farm roots grow deep! Thanks for sharing your lovely photos!

I ran across your blog today. Loved seeing some pictures of your farm. I've always dreamed of that life, though I don't think I'd be any good at it. Lol We do have chickens though, 35 plus a rooster. That's about as close to farm life for me as it gets BUT I do Love to garden for fresh veggies and fruits, I seen some of your photos from another post on canning, which I also love to do. So I'm now your newest "Follower" and look forward to reading more.
Come by for a visit when you get a chance.
Oh, the spoons are pretty too. I'm a hoarder of all things kitchen wise. :0)

And yes, your children are beautiful. I live in the "burbs" but am a country girl at heart. I think I was born in the wrong era ~ I love to can jams, tomatoes and a few other things but mostly I am a quilter.

  29. Hello there. I'm hopping over from GYB. So nice to meet another person who cans food. It's so rare these days, isn't it. One year I made traffic stoplight pepper jelly. You know, green on the bottom, yellow in the middle and red on top. Took ages but everyone loved it to pieces. But my favorite is apple jelly made from the scrubby apples at our cabin. So fresh tasting. I've followed so I'll see you soon. (I'd love to know your name) :)

  30. Oh I want to learn to can!! If the Army ever leaves us put for a time, I will have a huge garden and take up canning!

My mother has a cousin who raises turkey in MN and another who had a dairy. I loved growing up wandering around the farms...it was a blessing. My children have only seen livestock from the road :-( It's very lovely to meet you. I am slowly making my way through the GYB party.

  34. I came to your blog via "Grow Your Blog" party and am so glad I stopped in for a visit. I too am a follower of Jesus. How do people live without Him? Your blog is fun and interesting as well as friendly. I have always wanted to live on a farm but haven't. God has blessed me in many other ways though. I was born and raised in NH, and we moved to NC nearly ten years ago. I am now your newest follower, and hope that you'll stop by to visit me.
