GOOGLE, AMAZON, YOUTUBE AND MY WASHING MACHINE

A couple weeks ago in the midst of Sunday afternoon laundry, I heard my front-loading washer go "BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP" in the middle of a load.   It's not supposed to do that.

So I walk in there, take a look, and I see an error message that the door is open???

The door is NOT OPEN.  The washer is full of soaking wet sheets.  And it won't work.

Now just remember, it is Sunday afternoon.

I recently bought a new dishwasher (KitchenAid -- I LOVE IT) so I called the man who installed the dishwasher.  He tells me he doesn't do repairs, only installs.  He gives me the name of a person he knows who does repairs.  He says "he's pretty expensive, but he does a good job."

My washer is nine years old.  I do not want to hear the words "pretty expensive" in the same sentence as that nine year old washing machine.

So I did what any resourceful woman with a load of wet clothes and an IPad would do.  I "GOOGLED" it.  And the "GOOGLE" search results seemed to indicate that the "sensor" that controlled the electronic door lock had gone bad.  And wouldn't you know it, there was a YOUTUBE video showing just how to fix it myself.  I entered the model number of my washing machine and pulled up the parts list.  There on that parts list was the sensor.

I then went to AMAZON.COM and ordered a new sensor for $27.00 and FREE SHIPPING!!!

Then I packed up the wet sheets and headed to my sweet mama's house to use HER washer!!!

A few days later the new part arrived.  I watched the YOUTUBE video one more time and literally just a few minutes later I'M DOING LAUNDRY AGAIN!!!!!

So the next time something in your house breaks, take a few minutes and check the internet to see if it's something you could fix yourself.  There's NO WAY I could have even got a repairman to come to my house and see what's wrong for $27.00.  I guarantee you he would have charged me for two service calls, and at least doubled the mark up on the part.

Some things I can't do myself.  But the things I can, I'm going to!!!
I'd rather spend my money on something FUN than a repair man!!

Blessings to each of you from dry Missouri!

WE NEED RAIN!!!!!

  3. Good for you! I am dreading the day my Maytag set bites the dust. My set is at least 20 years old and still running like a top with only one washer repair in all those years.

My son is great at fixing anything with online tutorials, too. You may have a whole new career there! lol xo Diana

  5. Oh my goodness what a smart girl you are! I never would have thought of that! Cowboy searches some things but I don't think he would have thought. Or maybe I don't know. Anyway I'm impressed. I'll have to remember that if my used Maytag has a problem! It's really old but it's a Maytag! LOL. Thanks for coming by. Have a good week!
