I love homemade cinnamon rolls. They smell so good coming out of the oven. And the icing, oh the icing. Makes my mouth water just THINKING about them. Problem is, homemade cinnamon rolls take a lot of time to make. You have to mix the dough, and then KNEAD it. I really hate kneading dough. Then it has to rise, then you make the actual cinnamon rolls and it has to rise again. Then you have to bake them, and let them cool just a tiny bit before you ice them. And let's face it -- all that is really hard to do when you have to be at work at 8:00 a.m. and you have a 30 minute drive.
Enter my blogging friend Christy at Southern Plate (http://www.southernplate.com/). Christy has a TERRIFIC food blog. And one of her posts is for homemade cinnamon rolls using frozen bread dough.
Now, I know I heard some of you gasp. "Homemade cinnamon rolls from frozen bread dough?" Well, let me tell you I made them and they are absolutely delicious. I took a loaf of frozen bread dough, and ladies, I bought Always Save, the cheapest brand the store carried, and set the loaf out to thaw on my kitchen counter. When it had thawed, I put down waxed paper and floured it. I rolled the dough out to a fairly good sized rectangle. I melted 1/2 stick of butter (yes, real butter) and then spread that over the dough. I took 1 cup brown sugar and 3 tablespoons cinnamon, mixed those together and spread that over the butter. Then beginning on the widest side, roll up the dough, cut the cinnamon rolls, and place them in a greased 9 x 13 pan. Now, I did this the night before I wanted to bake the cinnamon rolls. So I covered the 9 x 13 pan with plastic wrap and left them sitting out on the counter until just before bedtime, then I put them in the refrigerator. The next morning when I went into town to the gym I set them out on the counter to warm up a bit. When I got back an hour later, I baked them at 400 degrees for 15 minutes, then set them on a rack to cool. I mixed up a little powdered sugar and milk for icing and let me tell you they were some of the BEST cinnamon rolls I have EVER EATEN!
Seriously, don't they just LOOK delicious????
So come on!!!!! You really can have homemade cinnamon rolls with just a tiny bit of effort, and the miracle of frozen bread dough! Check out Southern Plate for complete details of this cinnamon roll recipe. You'll be glad you did!
Hi,
ReplyDeleteCome visit my blog on Missouri Dogs

Thanks in Advance
Those look great. I'm cutting out the dreaded 'whites' now, so won't be making these at least for awhile. I've always been intimidated by cinnamon rolls (and breads in general), so this sounds very doable even for me. Thank ya! -Tammy
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your prayers, encouragement and support. You will never know what it means to me and my family.

Oh I just made cinnamon rolls this week. I kind of came up with my own recipe. I used a refrigerator dough from a Cowboy cookbook. They turned out good but not cinnamonny enough. Maybe I'll combine yours and mine! BTW thanks so much for coming by this morning. Your sweet comment lifted my spirits. I realized I need to go back and redo the photo because you can't read the words. I'll do that later. I am going to stay here awhile and read your blog. I lived in Missouri a few years. Nice to meet you sis.
ReplyDeleteThose look delicious...and I love the pick of the house and the snow. I take it, that's your farm? Absolutely beautiful. Thanks for visiting my blog. I am now following yours. Nice to meet you!

ReplyDeleteCheck out my post two days ago. It's for my homemade cinnamon rolls. I tried Weavers high gluten flour. They wre awesome, and you really only have to knead this dough when you roll it out.
