This past Sunday morning our pastor spoke on prayer. The Bible has much to say about prayer. Prayer is conversation with God. God is concerned with every aspect of our lives. The good, the bad, everything. One thing our pastor said that really touched my heart was "our prayer life defines our character, not our circumstances." That is really true.
How many times do we pray frantically when something is wrong, but forget to say "thank you" when things go our way? How many times have I sought God to HELP ME in my troubles, but forgotten to thank Him for sending His Son to die for me? Many times I've let the day go by and missed so many little things He tried to show me, but you let something bad happen and I'm calling out His name every second.
So what does that say about my character? I don't want to be a person who only prays in the bad times, and I don't think I am. But I will admit that my prayer life is more "active" in a crisis than in the good times.
I am striving to do as I Thessalonians 5:17-18 says "Pray without ceasing. In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you." That is my desire. To continually talk to Him, and to be still so that He can talk to me. Have you talked to Him today?
You are very inspiring! Thank you for reminding me just to simply talk to God! I don't do that near enough anymore.
ReplyDeleteAnd it's greening up by you! I live in Moniteau County. Aren't you in Miller just South of me? Go outside and look today. You'll see the signs. I promise! Just got to look hard for them but they are there.
Amen!
ReplyDeleteWhere I would be without being able to talk to My Lord~I don't know. I have a constant conversation going with Him all day.
I so enjoyed these words. I am facilitating a ladies' bible study on Stormie Omartian's book "The Power of a Praying Woman."
ReplyDeleteWe share the same desires.
Blessings!
I just noticed that your following my blog so I came to check it out. Love reading and meeting new christian bloggers. Sometimes shamefully He reminds me sometimes to just thank Him for all He has done.

A big eye open-er when I figured out (thanks Holy Spirit)that praying without ceasing wasn't the impossible: it's living every moment with the Christ.
ReplyDeleteThese are great words. I'm guilty of just praying when things are going wrong. I'm working on it...I'm a constant "work in progress" and I'm so glad He knows that and loves me anyway.
ReplyDeleteGreat post.
