Grandma

My Grandma Flo, my mom's mom, is 96 years old.  My grandpa passed away in 1991 and Grandma has lived alone since then.  Oh, she's not as spry as she once was, and my mom and a couple of my aunts keep a pretty close eye on her and help her out a lot, but she's in pretty good shape for 96.  A week ago today my Grandma fell at home.  My aunt found her, barely conscious, on the floor at 7:00 a.m.  The ambulance was called, all the kids were called and I saw Grandma about 8:00 a.m. at the ER.  She seemed fine to me, knew me by name, asked about my kids and my husband by name.  We all assumed she just took a tumble and couldn't get up.  That they would check her out and send her home.  By noon, my Grandma had been diagnosed with advanced cancer in her colon, kidneys and liver and given a few days to a couple of weeks to live.  By 4:00 p.m. that same day, my Grandma was back in her own home, surrounded by all who love her.  Since last Tuesday, we have been taking turns staying with her as she can no longer be left alone.  She is weak, a little bit confused, but considering her diagnosis we feel we are truly blessed.  I would ask for your prayers for my Grandma Flo.  She loves the Lord, and I know I will see her again.  Please pray for peace for her.  That through whatever comes these next few days or weeks that she would continue to put her trust in God.  We pray that she will not suffer.  We ask that God take her home peacefully.  I ask that you pray for my mom and her siblings.  Obviously, our entire family is devastated.  But we know that God is in this, and that He will see us through.  I will keep you posted.  Thank each one of you for praying.  It is deeply appreciate.

  2. My heart breaks for you! My grandma means the world to me, but she is almost 90 and rather frail and I know that her time here won't be as long as I'd like.
What a wonderful assurance that you will see her in Heaven. Praise the Lord!!! My prayers are with you and your family. Enjoy these special times with her. God's plan is so unfathomable, but so awesome!
    Blessings!

  7. Despite the obvious turning of seasons, this is never easy.

God in His mercy has given you such dear, close bonding with Grandma Flo. I imagine she has taught you numerous nuggets of truth that you will pass on to your children and grandchildren.

  11. Oh sweetie my heart and prayers are with you all the way. This is never easy. You might have done this already but have you called Hospice in. They are wonderful and help the patient with dignity and the family through the transition to Heaven. Just think she will leave her frail painful body and be dancin' with Jesus. Take care and know I will have Grnadma Flo and your family in my prayers.

God bless and enjoy the blessed time you have left with this precious lady of God.
