Bluing ? ? ?

I went to the store yesterday to pick up a couple bars of Fels Naphtha soap.  I use Fels Naphtha soap in my homemade laundry detergent (yes, I made 5 gallon last night!).  While I was looking for the bars of soap, my eyes locked on this . . Mrs. Stewart's Liquid Bluing.

As I stood there in the grocery store I admitted to myself that my whites are no longer whites, they're grey.  My socks are grey, our under clothes are grey, it's a grey world I live in.  I want my white clothing back!

Have you ever used Mrs. Stewart's Liquid Bluing?  If you have, I'd appreciate any advice you can give me before I "blue" every white item in my house.

I'm going to keep one sock out of the bluing and post before and after pictures.  Wish me luck!

  1. I'm jealous! I've been looking for bluing. Actually, my laundry detergent recipe calls for bluing as an optional add-on. Of course, to make your whites whiter. We SO need that too :) I don't know the amount to add, but I think you can add it right in your laundry detergent recipe. -Tammy

  4. I'm just impressed you make your own laundry detergent. I'd love to do that I bet it saves a ton of money. Thanks for your recent comments on my blog. I look forward to hearing more about how the bluing worked for you too.

    Have a great day.

  5. I've seen that before and never knew what it was!! My whites are no longer white either. I refuse to use bleach as I can't stand the environmental impact. I think I'm going to try a non-chlorine bleach. I have no idea if that whitens well or not. Looking forward to seeing the before and after bluing pictures!

  7. I have used this product but I really don't see much difference. If you do use it, make sure you dilute in a quart of water before adding to wash.
