Here is a picture of the rake. It is a pretty wide piece of equipment, so I took a picture of each side of the rake.
And this, this is what it looks like from behind as you pull the rake thru the hay, making a "row" of hay for the baler to pick up.
Can I just say one thing??? It is HOT in Missouri in the summertime and raking hay in July is really no fun at all. The sun is hot, the humidity is unbearable, it's dusty, there's just no way to make it an easy job. But, this winter when the temperature is WAAAAYYY below freezing, and the snow is flying, our cows will be well fed. And we will experience a sense of accomplishment that only a farming family feels, knowing that we are taking care of the animals we raise.
Oh~ I understand that Hot July in Missouri. It seems the air is so thick you can cut it.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a wonderful day making hay ~tis one of my favorite sayings!
I totally get this! My dad was a farmer and rancher. My hub and I have some cows and live on farm acreage with hay pastures, etc.
ReplyDeleteSummer is such an important part of farm life! Have a blessed day.

We've put up first cutting round bales of dry hay this year and are hoping for a second cutting of square hay. God has blessed us...again...with great hay!
ReplyDeleteI agree, Missouri weather is hot, but I prefer the heat and humidity over the cold winters!
ReplyDeleteWow.. I'm over this heat. Your place looks amazing. Great blog. I'm following. Keri
ReplyDeleteWow, that looks like a giant hay braiding machine. Lots of work, but bless you for doing it!
ReplyDeleteI have ALWAYS wanted to drive that machine!!! I love it when they rake the field behind us and all that hay gets to whirring and tossing!!!!! It's a 70+ old lady that does it and it's really cute to see her out there!!! Not as hot and humid here, so maybe a little more fun???
ReplyDeleteTyler has to buck bales on Saturday...a job he does not like!!!! Gives him some nice muscles though! It's supposed to be 84* so he will be a little itchy!!!
Your farm looks so pretty!!
