I don't know about you, but we have NOT had a warm spring here in Missouri. It has been COLD!!! I don't know that we've had our air conditioner on ONE TIME yet this year, and here it is April 10th!!! We still have our furnace on!!!
And while we've plowed our garden, we haven't planted a thing. The ground is cold. We had snow just two weeks ago. So we've been dragging our feet where the garden is concerned. But we did plant some asparagus yesterday.
We've never had an asparagus bed, so this is new territory for us.
Here are a couple of pictures I snapped yesterday:
It will be a couple of years before we can actually harvest any of the asparagus. If you have any tips on growing asparagus we would certainly appreciate them!!! Just leave a comment below.
And one more thing, our daughter Alex and her husband will be flying home tomorrow!!! They will be home for a couple of weeks on pre-deployment leave. We are beyond excited to see them and I would appreciate your prayers for SAFE TRAVELS FOR THEM!!! And while I probably won't be able to share exact dates with you, our son-in-law will be deployed overseas from sometime in May through sometime in November. I would love it if you would add him to your prayer list. Freedom isn't free.
Blessings to each and every one of you, my friends!! Today I'm thankful for the rain that God has sent, and I'm praying for it to warm up a little. It is April after all!!
Good luck with the asparagus. Have a good week. Enjoy your visit.
ReplyDeleteI just noticed the verse on your sidebar Daily Blessings.
ReplyDeleteI shared the same verse on my post on Sunday!
Come over and see it. You'll like it!
I had an asparagus bed when we lived in Russellville. I would burn the grass and weeds around it before it came up. Other then that just pick it when it grows, it goes to seed pretty quickly! I out my stuff in too early and lost all my peppers and tomato plants. I wish I'd have waited another week.
ReplyDeleteWow! I hope you get a great crop of Asparagus! That stuff is expensive :) I'm so happy for you to get to see your kids! Praying for a safe trip home - every single time.
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
My hubs ceo plants it and shares every year big fat delicious spears that I eat fresh ..yum!
ReplyDeleteI *love* asparagus....I hope you have success in growing your own. :) I don't seem to have a green thumb for veggies....so, no tips will be coming from me. Enjoy your visit with your daughter and her husband...what a sweet blessing! Please thank your son-in-law for us for all he is doing for the freedoms we enjoy. Hugs, Camille
